My art is all about learning how to express the world as I discover it, the faces I see, the seasons I feel. I am most involved in what I call "the translation of 1 dimensional images into larger than life pictorial quilts". I'll use whatever technique will best translate. Whether it's raw or turned edge applique, painting with thread or brush, or foundation piecing with bits of fabric and my sewing machine - every approach has merit, and I value each in it's own right. I am fascinated with the concept of value - light, medium, and dark, and how value can add so much energy and personality to art. While I lean toward to bright colors and curved shapes, I've done portraits all in one color, relying solely on the light to dark values to make all the expression. I believe that the artist plays a vital role in human society, giving voice to that which resides deep within every human soul and helping all people enjoy and grow within the difficult, and brief, life we have on planet earth.
